Worming

Polo ponies require a regular parasite control program.

A polo pony is continually exposed to parasite eggs in pastures or bot flies and requires a regular worming, usually every month.

Symptoms indicating a horse needs to be wormed include:

• distended barrel
• colic symptoms
• itchy tail
• poor or voracious appetite
• diarrhea
• poor overall condition

It's normal for horses to have some parasites in their system. However, an infestation of internal parasites can cause health problems and possible irreversible internal organ damage.

In extreme cases, infestations of internal parasites can lead to death.
